Ulster Society of Organists and Choirmasters

U.S.O.C. Newsletter - May 2000

HELP! HELP!

Of all the many USOC circulars despatched during the past 25 years this is probably the first not to begin with an announcement of our next meeting. This does not mean that the May meeting has been cancelled or that the Society has plunged into liquidation, but it does mean that your Honorary Secretary has a problem which YOU may be able to solve.

Last month's communiqué indicated that in the near future we hope to issue a new, updated membership list. Unfortunately about 70 members have not returned the data reply-slip, and without the information this would provide it is quite impossible for me to produce an accurate list.

Even if other personal details can remain unaltered all telephone numbers have been changed and some members now have an additional e-mail address, so I need to have a reply from EVERY member to ensure that the new list is correct.

If you have replied: thank you! If you have not, please do so NOW - or sooner if you can manage it!

MAY - WEST

On Saturday 27th May a foray into Fermanagh has been planned visiting three very different organs in Enniskillen, all within a few minutes walk of one another. Here's the itinerary:
11:00 am Enniskillen Methodist Church (2m Conacher)
12:00 noon St Macartin's Anglican Cathedral (3m Conacher/Abbey Organs)
1:00 pm Lunch
2:30 pm St Michael's Roman Catholic Church (2m Wells-Kennedy)

Peter Sweeney who was consultant for the virtually new instrument at St Michael's Church will be travelling from Dublin to be with us on this occasion. He will give a demonstration of the organ and follow it with a short recital lasting about an hour. At this and at the other 2 venues there will be an opportunity for members to play

Arrangements have been made for lunch to be served at the conveniently situated Mulligan's Restaurant but reservations are necessary. For a 2-course meal (with choices of main course and dessert) the charge will be £7.97 and payment can be made at the dinery. To make a reservation, complete and return the slip below not later than 20th May.

Because all the venues are within easy walking distance it is suggested that you should find a parking space on arrival in Enniskillen and leave your car there for the day.
