In connection with the new series of Sung Masses just launched at St Peter’s Cathedral in conjunction with USOC, the Very Rev Dr Hugh Kennedy, Administrator at St Peter’s will be the speaker at this meeting. He will cover such matters as:
· His plans for this series
· The position of non-Catholics attending
· Similarities between the services at St Peter’s and those in churches in other denominations
· The current attitude of the Roman Catholic church generally towards ‘serious’ church music
Sung Mass at St Peter’s Cathedral,

Featuring the choir of St George’s
Parish Church, High Street, Belfast
All USOC members welcome. For St Peter’s, leave the Westlink at the Divis/Falls exit. At top of slip road, head away from the city centre. Turn left at the first traffic lights and then left again. The car park entrance is to the left of the Cathedral.
N B. Any members interested in having a meal in Belfast between the afternoon and evening events should phone Philip Walden on 9147 3643 by Saturday 3 February. If there is sufficient demand, arrangements will be made.

attend either or both of the afternoon and evening events.

Well done to former Presidents Dr Joe McKee and Dr Donald Davison who were awarded an OBE and MBE respectively in the New Year’s Honours list. Congratulations!

Event
On this date, there will be a further session on basic improvisation taken by Philip Stopford. It will be held in Dundrod Presbyterian Church where there is a fine organ by Kenneth Jones built 25 years ago. Unfortunately, Olivier Latry has had to withdraw from this engagement following an operation. However, he has been replaced by Peter Barley. Peter is Director of Music at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin and a former organ scholar at King’s College, Cambridge.
USOC members are strongly encouraged to support this event-the last organ concert before the Ulster Hall closes for extensive refurbishment. Call 9032 3900 for details.

Thank you to those members who have already paid their subscription for 2007, especially those who sent it off before Christmas.
