YOUTH AT THE CONSOLE Our Annual Members Concert to be held this year at the Church of Saint Thomas, Lisburn Road, at 3:00 pm on Saturday 17th April, will feature some of our young members - all keen organ students. As you may know, the church's three-manual Hill has been recently restored and is one of the few Hill organs in its original state.

ARE YOU COMPUTERIZED? If so, you might like to consider having the monthly circulars delivered to you via e-mail as an alternative to what is now rather rudely referred to as "snail mail". Members interested in this instant form of communication should contact Ian Hunter at ih@rt.to as soon as possible.

COURSE FOR BOY SINGERS From 9th to 14th August a residential summer school course for boy singers, directed by Mark Keane and Peter Sweeney, will be held at Aravon School, Bray, culminating in a public concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on 14th August. The all-in cost is £169.00 per person and applications have to be made by 9th April. Further details from Mark Keane - tel: 087 2204 419.

TRINITY COLLEGE CD Featuring the organs of the Chapel and Public Theatre of Trinity College, Dublin, a new recording has been made by David Adams (first winner of the Dublin Organ Competition and now an international recitalist) and is available at £10.00 (including mailing) from Joseph O'Gorman, Box 22, Regent's House, Trinity College, Dublin. Cheques should be made payable to Trinity College Chapel Choir.

APRIL AIRS With Nigel Ogden at the console, the next Tonic Organ Concert at Gransha High School, Bangor, will be presented at 8:00 pm on Thursday 29th April. On this occasion the programme will include some silent films with organ accompaniment. Tickets available at the concert.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER Our trip to Tullamore and Mullingar will now take place on Friday 10th / Saturday 11th September with bed and breakfast at Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar. On Saturday we shall visit Saint Finian's College to hear its SPÄTH organ (probably the sole example of this German builder's work on the island) and Mullingar Cathedral whose recently restored Compton is almost certainly the largest built by that firm in Ireland. On then to Tullamore where lunch (cost not included) will be taken at the recently opened Court Hotel followed by a visit to the Parish Church to hear its three-manual Frobenius.

At all three venues Shane Brennan (his recording of this organ was reviewed in OR in August '98) has most generously agreed to demonstrate these three very different instruments and there will be an opportunity for members to play them.

Departure point will be Methodist College where cars can be parked and from which we shall leave at 6:30 pm on Friday 10th September. On Saturday we expect to return to Belfast at about 8:00 pm.

Including coach transport and bed and breakfast in Mullingar the charge per person will be £52.00. A remittance for this sum should accompany the reply-slip provided which should be returned to me by 30th April.

BERLIN BONANZA To celebrate the Millennium in truly memorable fashion plans are now under way for a visit to BERLIN next year : leaving Belfast on Thursday 27th April (four days after Easter Day) and returning the following Monday, 1st May, which will that year be a general holiday. We have been extremely fortunate in that a Berlin organist (Silke Riëmann) who happens to have a particular interest in Northern Ireland has offered to organize visits to the city's most interesting organs and the Berlin Organists Association has already made preliminary plans for our trip.

For the four-day tour the total cost (including air fares, half-board accommodation and coach hire) is expected to be around £400.00 and arrangements can be made for members wishing to extend their stay.

The June circular will include further details and reservation form.

Meanwhile please remember to mail your reply regarding Tullamore/Mullingar by 30th April.

Yours sincerely
